Buses to Tartu leave almost every 30 minutes from 5.40 in the morning until 23.59 at night (timetable). The trip takes around 2,5 hours.
The Hourly Express buses also stop at the Tallinn airport on their way to Tartu (the stop is called "Lennujaam" in Estonian). These buses leave from 7.00 in the morning to 21.00 in the evening. (timetable). If you wish to get on the bus at the airport, it is advisable to buy the ticket in advance. You can buy the ticket online but there are also ticket machines at the airport, which are located just before the exit that leads to the bus stops.
The bus station in Tallinn is located quite close to the airport and you can reach it by taxi or bus. Bus nr 2 goes from the airport to the bus station (the stop is called “Autobussijaam”) (directions to the bus stops)
Trains to Tartu from Tallinn leave from the Baltic Station and take around 2,5 hours to reach Tartu. The train station is situated just outside the Old Town. You can get there by taxi or tram No 2 (stop “Balti jaam”) (Journey planner and timetable)
Tartu Airport has connections only to Helsinki (operated by Finnair). The distance between Tartu Airport and the city center is around 10 kilometers.
The easiest way to get to the city from the airport is with the airport shuttle. The shuttle bus leaves from Tartu Airport approximately about 15 minutes after the plane has arrived. The shuttle will drop you off at any place in Tartu.

Buses are operated by LuxExpress (timetable) and Ecolines (timetable). Both companies also have buses that start the journey from Riga airport (directions to the bus stop). From Riga airport you can get to the bus station with a bus nr 22 or a minibus nr 222 or 241. The trip takes about 30 minutes.’
